Reading Reflection #3

So still reading the Amber Spyglass and I love how intricate it’s all getting. There are so many questions, most prominent of them being, what’s Mrs. Coulter’s angle? I am honestly mystified by her. She said that all she wanted to do was protect Lyra, to be her mother and all that sappy stuff. Lord Asriel saw that she was lying, but why would she lie about that? Is she really still with the Church? How could that be when she quite obviously went against everything the Church ordered her to do. She hid Lyra away instead of killing her. And another thing, Lord Asriel is, there’s no other way to put it, an asshole. He seems to care nothing for anything else but himself and his cause. He doesn’t care at all about Lyra, his own daughter. He doesn’t care at all about Mrs. Coulter, whom he supposedly once loved, nor does he seem to care about anyone under his command unless they are useful to him. He is a good and fair commander though which also doesn’t make sense with his character. I think it’s no wonder Lyra is so clever and good at lying. Both of her parents do it so well.
